Çetin Mandaci, an MP for Xanthi prefecture, was speaking in parliament on the second day of the confidence debate in Lucas Papademos’ new government.

“I can’t walk hand in hand with those who obstruct and torpedo the composition of the Greek society with their ultraright rhetoric” Mandaci said, stressing that he has confidence in transitional prime minister Lucas Papademos and his abilities.

First elected in 2007, Mandaci is a member of the Turkish-speaking Muslim minority of Thrace. His comments were widely believed to be directed at participation of the rightist Popular Orthodox Rally (Laos) in the government.
