The only thing necessary for the persistence of evil is for enough good people to do nothing

I apologise again for the lack of posting here. I was hacked a few weeks ago and this person has been very persistent and pretty much corrupted all my files. This has meant that I dare not post new things for fear of people being infected by the virus they have spread. I haven’t had an rss feed for ages either. My other problem was that I couldn’t see what other people were experiencing so had to rely on people letting me know.

My blog guru has cleaned up everything now and (hopefully) the problem will not continue. Please let me know if you are still experiencing any difficulties.

This has been such a headache and I have lost a lot of momentum and probably a lot of readers, which is a shame. I will try and restore my enthusiasm and return to frequent posting very soon.

Thank you to everyone who wrote to me about the problems they were having on this site. It’s always good to know that people are looking out for you.

Thank you bfp. That’s really good to know. I’m hoping the problems have passed. I honestly don’t know what pleasure people get out of trying to destroy people’s hard work.

    Strength received :-)

I am sorry that you had to go through all this. However, I find it a bit suspicious that you, yourself, could not see what other visitors have been experiencing after the blog had been hacked. If I were you and have not already done so, I would also take a long, hard look at the computer that you normally use to post.

Addendum: I saw elsewhere that you are a Mac user and thus could not see that there was a problem. This still doesn’t convince me that there might not be another problem elsewhere – I use Linux to browse the site, and I was forcibly pulled to one of the virus-spewing sites every time I visited nevertheless.

Yes, I realize that the problems were server-side, but they had to start somewhere. In case a server is compromised, it is virtually essential to retrace exactly how this happened. It could have been a hole in the blogging software, but there is also a more sinister scenario in which your own computer was compromised and the passwords sniffed. I am not saying that this is what happened in your case, but the fact that not everyone, and in particular, you, could see that the blog had been hacked, would constitute enough cause for me to investigate thoroughly if I were the server admin.

I commented once before, in response to the events at Agios Panteleimonas. Most of the time I have been content with just lurking, though, since I started reading your blog, around 2 1/2 years ago.

As far as I know, no mac users were affected but I’m sorry to hear you were! The problem was server side (I have a blog guru who deals with all that but he has been extremely busy with other things). It seems that it is all sorted out now, thank goodness. Thank you for your concern.

I don’t remember if you have commented before and if I have welcomed you. If not, welcome and I hope you will come back often.
